Bypasses PTPVerified

Modifier RT: Right side

When it is appropriate

Append RT to identify that a procedure was performed on the right side of a paired organ or structure, including to bypass an NCCI PTP edit when the paired column one and column two codes were performed on opposite sides during the same session.

When it is not appropriate

Do not use RT for midline structures without a left or right distinction, or when both services were actually performed on the left side.

CMS preference

RT (with LT) is one of the anatomic modifiers CMS explicitly lists as able to bypass an NCCI PTP edit for genuinely opposite side procedures.
